Drilling rig Description

A truck-mounted drilling rig is a rig that is attached to a truck. The drilling rig is used to drill holes in the ground including water wells, oil wells and natural gas extraction wells.

Drilling rigs sample and test sub-surface and underground properties such as mineral deposits, rocks and soil. They can also install underground utilities, tunnels and wells. They consist of pumps, a derrick or mast, a substructure, blowout preventers, drill pipe, drill collars, mud tanks and a rotary table or top drive.

Truck-mounted drilling rigs are portable and smaller than permanent drilling rig structures which require assembly and disassembly.
