National Transport Insurance (NTI) has provided a written-off heavy vehicle to SkillsTech Australia to assist in training truck repair apprentices.

The handover is part of NTI’s long-term commitment to a safer transport industry by ensuring apprentices are learning their trade on an up to date vehicle.

The truck is being used in the new $13 million heavy auto facility at SkillsTech Australia’s Acacia Ridge Training Centre in Queensland.

NTI CEO Tony Clark said the future of the truck repair industry was an important issue for the industry.

“We understand the importance of quality training for heavy vehicle repair apprentices,” Mr Clark said.

“A well-repaired truck is a safe truck and our aim as a company is to have safer roads for our customers.”

“NTI is proud to be partnering with SkillsTech Australia in ensuring the next generation of heavy vehicle repairers have the best opportunities to learn.”

Tony Clark officially handed over the truck on 7 December to SkillsTech Australia’s Institute Director Mary Campbell.

SkillsTech Australia Automotive Business Manager Chris Kroehn said the initiative from NTI will significantly benefit trainees and apprentices at all levels of training

“This vehicle features braking systems, automatic transmission and engine technology utilised in today’s current highway vehicles,” Mr Kroehn said.

“Students will be able to extensively dismantle, reassemble and test all components of these loaned vehicles thus providing invaluable work experience during our training programs.

“We thank NTI for their generous assistance in initiating a program which will assist our students to learn current and relevant skills directly aligned to the needs of industry.”

National Transport Insurance is a foundation sponsor of the Australian Trucking Association and sponsor of the CVIAQ Apprentice of the Year Award.
